Life update!! I recently moved back to my college city in Charleston, SC! (If you start seeing “y’all” in my writing, now you know why). When you live two plane rides away, it’s hard to decide what comes and what stays. Luckily, my parents came with me and helped me get situated in my first ever apartment. I’m all about making my new house feel like home & I’m so excited to show you guys how well I think it turned out.
First off, I figured out what my priorities were. Unpopular opinion, I really enjoy a lot of light in my room. The dark den look has me feeling drowsy all the time, so natural light was huge. I put my desk directly below my window so that I’d always have light coming at me.
As far as decor went, that kind of just happened with itself. I’m truly a horrible planner, but I tried to show off my favorite things. Taped on my window sill are all drawings & letters people have given me & it’s by far my favorite part of the room. Everyday I am reminded of how awesome the people in my life are. Scout, you big ole sap! Pictures of my friends is always a must & the twine was a cliche, but who cares. FLOATING SHELVES ARE MAGICAL. I have no idea how they work, but they are phenomenal and pull any room together. And that’s all I have to say on the subject.
Onto the next! My sleepy time space. I love pillows and simplicity. All about the fluff. For me, getting matching wood stain was really important. I didn’t want a white dresser if I was going to have a dark brown bed frame. These nit picky things were just me being annoying, but ended up making a difference in the overall look of the room. Forgive me for my unmade bed, after 3 days of moving, that sheet can just lie where it pleases. A staple piece I love in the second picture is my Nebraska sign. It’s drawn in white paint on a thin piece of wood. Freaking dope. Etsy is the best. But truly, you can take the girl out of the midwest…
Let me know what y’all think of it so far! If you have any questions where I found something, please leave it in the comments below, or if you have a favorite home decor store, I’d love to check it out.
